Waltham, Massachusetts · 1903–1930
Two companies share the Howard name on American pocket watches. Edward Howard founded E. Howard & Co. in Roxbury, Massachusetts, in 1858, and its watches are signed E. Howard & Co. Regular watchmaking there ended in 1903, when the Keystone Watch Case Company bought the right to use the name on watches. Keystone's E. Howard Watch Co. made new designs in a factory in Waltham, sold them only as complete cased watches, and named its grades by Series number, from the 23-jewel Series 0 to the Series 11 Railroad Chronometer. The company closed in 1930 and Hamilton bought the Howard name. Every Series watch here is a Keystone Howard, so look for E. Howard Watch Co. on the movement.
