Era · 1940–1969
The final run of American-made pocket watch movements. Hamilton's 992B arrived in 1940 and, with Waltham's Vanguard and Elgin's B.W. Raymond, did most of the railroad work as diesels pushed the railroads toward nonmagnetic hairsprings. Waltham stopped making watches in 1957, Elgin ended U.S. manufacturing in 1968, and Hamilton's Lancaster factory closed in 1969.
